1. Immigration and Asylum
The AfD's most prominent platform is a "hard-line" stance on migration, which they argue is necessary to preserve German culture and security.
"Remigration": Proposing the large-scale return of immigrants and asylum seekers whose right to stay has expired or who are deemed "unintegrated."
Border Controls: Advocating for closed national borders and a rejection of the EU's open-border (Schengen) policy.
Cultural Preservation: Opposing the "Islamization" of Germany and promoting a return to a "Leitkultur" (leading culture) based on German traditions and Christian values.
2. European Union (Euroscepticism)
The party is deeply critical of the current structure of the EU, often describing it as an undemocratic, bureaucratic entity.
EU Reform or "Dexit": The AfD demands a "Europe of sovereign nations" where powers are returned to national parliaments. If fundamental reforms are not met, they have proposed a referendum on Germany leaving the EU (similar to Brexit).
The Euro: They advocate for the abolition of the Euro currency and a return to the Deutsche Mark or a smaller currency union.
3. Energy and Climate
The AfD is the only major German party that explicitly rejects the scientific consensus on man-made climate change.
Rejection of the "Green Deal": They want to end all climate-related taxes and subsidies, arguing they destroy German industrial competitiveness.
Nuclear and Coal: They advocate for returning to nuclear power and continuing the use of coal and gas, while stopping the "uncontrolled expansion" of wind turbines.
Withdrawal from Agreements: They propose withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement.
4. Economy and Social Policy
Taxation: Proposals to simplify the tax code, reduce the overall tax burden, and abolish inheritance and wealth taxes.
Family Values: Promoting the "traditional family" (mother, father, children) as the bedrock of society. They oppose "gender mainstreaming" and advocate for higher birth rates among the native population rather than relying on immigration to solve demographic issues.
Direct Democracy: Proposing a Swiss-style model of national referendums to allow citizens to vote directly on major laws.
5. Foreign Policy
Relations with Russia: Historically, the party has advocated for more pragmatism and closer ties with Russia, often criticizing EU sanctions and German weapon deliveries to Ukraine.
NATO and the US: While generally supportive of a strong defense, they often call for a more "sovereign" German foreign policy that is less dependent on US interests.
