Expressway Poznań - Gniezno is being built in Wielkopolska Region. Some Facts:

    Wielkopolska Region:

    Area - 29 826 square km
    Population - 3 403 174

    Lithuania:

    Area - 62 200 square km
    Population - 3 322 200

So we have much bigger problems with private property when building roads. When I was driving through Lithuania there are huge emty spaces, in Poland we have w lot of small town and villages so sometimes there is no space to build new road.

The biggest problems with land there are in Śląskie Region in southern Poland:

    Area - 12 333 square km
    Population - 4 654 115.

Yes, makes sense. I just wonder how about ride comfort? Concrete is much harder and therefore tyre noise is much more noticeable (especially in smaller cars). Or is there some technology that helps to avoid that?
Try Vienna bypass after alternation. It`s made of concrete and comfort is very good. When concrete is plain and well laid there`s no problem with noise and comfort. But older concrete technologies were of course not so good.

Why are they choosing concrete? I thought tarmac is the option in most new highways? Or are there any advantages?
Concrete is much more permanent pavement than tarmac. First alternation is needed after 20 - 30 years of use.

Most modern highways in Germany or Austria are of concrete. Lately opened A4 section in Poland to German border - Krzyżowa is from concrete:

How it looks on A2 highway (test concrete section is ready):

    It`s very modern german technology:

Section of the test is performed to verify the technology, machines and procedures for receiving, in practice, or on site. Laying of concrete pavement is working "band" and will continue for the next three days, ie until 22 November 2009. This type of concrete section is laid for the first time in Poland in the new technology that is "concrete pavement with exposed aggregate" so-called "washbeton. This technology was developed several years ago and is now used in countries such as Belgium, Austria and Germany, where since 2007 is the standard technology for concrete pavements for highways. Works are performed by Heilit & Woerner, STRABAG, which has more than 29 years experience in concrete pavements, including 16 years in Poland.

Before you start laying the concrete slab, has been previously arranged and attached geotextile which acts as a separating layer and dehydration. The construction of pavement base course consists of a thick. Of 20 cm of lean concrete, under a layer of lean concrete base course made Frost a layer thickness. 32 cm.
Positioned today surface of the concrete slab consists of 23 cm bottom layer of concrete and 5 cm top layer of concrete. Both layers are designed so that together they can cope with the enormous movement of cars projected to pressure of 115 kN / axle for more than 30 years.

"By construction, the company A2Strada (Kulczyk Holding Strabag), zdecydowałsię the implementation of the test right now because of the possible opportunity to refine the technology chosen for this year, before the start of full construction season in the spring of 2010" - explains CEO Andrew AWSAII Patalas.

That part of A2 Highway section from Nowy Tomyśl to German Border (lenght 106 km) will be finished to november 2011 and will have concrete surface, like many german highways.
By june 2012 A2 will be ready from german border to Warsaw (exactly to Minsk Mazowiecki, east to Warsaw), total lenght of 472 km.

Tada, be 3x3 kelių niekaip neišsiversim. Šiuo klausimu niekas negali būti šimtų procentu įsitikinęs.
