Poland's national rail operator, PKP Intercity, is set to launch a direct train service from Warsaw to Rijeka, Croatia, starting July 1, 2025, aiming to boost tourism between the two countries. The initiative, confirmed by Polish Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak, will offer one-way tickets starting at approximately 200 zloty (around €50), making it an affordable option for travelers heading to the Adriatic coast.
The proposed route includes stops in Poland (Opoczno Południe, Włoszczowa Północ, Katowice), the Czech Republic (Ostrava, Břeclav), Austria, and Slovenia (Maribor, Ljubljana), and concludes in Rijeka.
The journey is expected to take less than 24 hours, with departures from Warsaw around 14:00 and arrivals in Rijeka before 09:00 the next day.
The service's launch is contingent upon coordination with international rail partners, particularly in Austria and Slovenia, where infrastructure constraints may affect scheduling. In 2023, over one million Polish tourists visited Croatia, making Poland one of Croatia's top tourist markets.
PKP Intercity is also considering extending the route to Split, further enhancing connectivity to Croatian coastal destinations.
