At least another EUR 500 million is planned to be invested in the development of strategically important projects in Rīga's Kundziņsala area (around the Freeport of Rīga) until 2030, Ansis Zeltiņš, the port's manager, told LETA on Wednesday, 16 July. He said that the Kundziņsala industrial area covers 360 hectares, including about 30 hectares of planned projects, with another 100 to 120 hectares to be developed.
Among the development projects is the establishment of a hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility. The project has now been submitted to the construction authority and Amber Flow Fuels plans to invest around €120 million in the plant. Zeltiņš stressed that the project is included in the priority list of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) and production is planned to start in 2027. The Authority said that at least seven more companies, including cargo terminals, logistics centres, energy companies and smart factories, will start operations in Kundziņsala in the coming years, providing around 800 new jobs.
At the same time, he said that the construction of the traffic overpass from Tvaika Street to Kundziņsala will be completed within the next year in cooperation with the Rīga municipality, with a total investment of EUR 82.6 million. He said the overpass will allow up to 8,000 cars to cross per day and will also play a key role in diverting freight traffic from the city centre.
